Discover the best-preserved sites of the Puuc Route with a professional guide, from the Hacienda Yaxcopoil to the Maya archaeological site Uxmal, not forgetting an unusual swim in a cenote!
You'll take the road departing from Merida from your hotel, directing you to the Route Puuc, a hilly and unique region on the Yucatan Peninsula, dotted with several archaeological sites.
You'll make a first stop to visit the Hacienda Yaxcopoil. A Hacienda is a large farm that also serves as the farmer's home. Thanks to its size and splendid colonial architecture, this 17th-century building was considered one of the most important estates on the Yucatan peninsula. Yaxcopoil means "Place of the Green Poplars" in the Mayan language. The majestic main house, with its large rooms, high ceilings and wide windows and doors, is in fact surrounded by brightly colored green gardens with lush vegetation. The interior decoration, typically colonial, retains many original furnishings.
You'll take the Puuc road back to the Mayan archaeological site of Uxmal. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this site in the heart of nature is very well preserved and complete. Uxmal, whose Mayan name is said to mean "Three-times-built", was erected in the Classical period and reached its peak between 800 and 950 AD. The site comprises 15 buildings, including the Pyrmide du Devin, the Quadrilatère des Nonnes and the Palais du Gouverneur.
Your guide will take you lunch in a local restaurant, then you'll go for refreshment in the cenote of Peba. Enjoy the view and this unusual swim in the heart of the forest.
After the swim you'll be driven back to your hotel in Merida.
