Descripción

Discover the natural wonders of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula on a day trip from Reykjavik!

You'll start your day by leaving Reykjavik heading west, crossing the Borgarfjörður fjord to the village of Borgarnes, where a short break will allow you to refresh yourself.

Entering the Snæfellsnes peninsula, you'll make your first stop at the Ytri-Tunga farm, renowned for its seal colony and diversity of seabirds.

Your next stop is the charming village of Arnarstapi, where you'll stroll along the rugged coastline to admire the spectacular rock formations and cliffs home to numerous bird species. A lunch break is planned in this picturesque setting.

After lunch, you'll head to the black pebble beach of Djúpalónssandur, located in Snæfellsjökull National Park. This peaceful beach offers stunning ocean views and a fascinating history, with shipwreck remains and traditional lifting stones once used to test the strength of fishermen.

Leaving Djúpalónssandur, you'll traverse striking scenery to the fishing village of Grundarfjörður, on the peninsula's northern coast. Surrounded by majestic mountains, Grundarfjörður is famous for Mount Kirkjufell, often considered Iceland's most photographed mountain due to its distinctive symmetrical shape.

Leaving Grundarfjörður, you'll cross the lava fields of Berserkjahraun, where, according to Viking legends, two Swedish "berserks" built Iceland's first road. You'll then continue to the south of the peninsula via the Vatnaleið pass, before returning to Reykjavik at the end of the day.
