Explore the famous sites of the Golden Circle and visit the Fridheimar Greenhouse on an ecological excursion from Reykjavík!
Following your transfer from central Reykjavik, set out to explore the must-see sites of the Golden Circle, south-east Iceland.
Step inside the amazing Fridheimar Greenhouse. Despite the long Icelandic winters, tomatoes are grown all year round here under the artificial lighting. You'll learn all about environmentally friendly pest control methods and how the owners of the greenhouse, an agronomist and a horticulturist, have succeeded in growing tomatoes using Iceland's abundant geothermal heat.
Next, it's time to take the bus to the geothermal area of Geysir. You'll be in awe of the 30-metre-high columns of water that shoot out of Strokkur geyser every 4-8 minutes.
Your tour then continues to Gullfoss falls. Located on the Hvítá River, there are two 32-metre-high and 70-metre-wide waterfalls. Rainbows regularly form here, giving the falls their name, which literally means 'golden falls'.
Finally, explore Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a volcanic plain that cannot be ignored from a historical and geological point of view, as it is here that the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates separate.
You'll head back to Reykjavík in the late afternoon.
